A quick note on how to use these files most effectively . . . .

These files are "surname specific."  What that means, as an example, is if you are researching a Sammis and you find he/she has married a Conklin within the Sammis file you will not find the ancestors of the Conklin, just the Sammis.  In order to  find the Conklin ancestors you will need to go into the Conklin file and find the same individual.  The chances are good that you will find the ancestry line in that file.

Sometime in the future I hope to be able to combine all these files into one database, showing all connecting lines.  But as of now that requires just more time then I have available.  The duplicates, resulting from the merging of the individual lines, alone would take months and a lot of patience to sort out.  As technology speeds up and finances become easier I will attempt this project.  It has always fascinated me the way the families intertwined and intermarried and shows a true picture of how life was on early Long Island.
