The Queens County Sentinel
began publication as a weekly newspaper in June 1858, with offices
in Hempstead NY. When Queens County was incorporated into Greater New York
in January 1898, part of the county was separated. On January 1, 1899,
the separated portion was renamed Nassau County. At some time after that
date the paper changed its name to the Hempstead Sentinel. The last edition
of the Queens County Sentinel available on microfilm is dated May 26 1898.,
the first available issue of the Hempstead Sentinel is dated June 1, 1899.
There is no record of what happend to the paper between those dates.
