Interesting genealogical twist; this couple had a grand-daughter Martha Brush [1935-1980], who married a relative on my father's side, a William T. Harbach. I'm not sure exactly how he fits into my Harbach line, but I'm sure he's a cousin of some degree of my father's. My grandmother Kate Harbach Roberts [1884-1943], was the eldest daughter of Frank L. Harbach [1856-1926]. Frank moved out from Brooklyn in the 1890s to Hicksville; his wife's side was from Plainview. My father had a number of uncles. Most of the various Harbachs scattered thru' Hicksville, Huntington, Smithtown in the era before/after WWII were all descendants of my great-grandfather Frank.

Theodore Primus Sammis was a farmer in (Lloyd Harbour?) Huntington, New York. He owned 50 acres of land, but farmed about 200 acres around the area.
He bought a 1917 Ford and didn't use it for a year. When he did use it, it went three miles and the fan belt burned up. It had been sitting too long without use.
On trying to stop the car, he ended up driving into a chicken coop shouting "Whoa " - he was used to horses and had never driven a car before. (As told to Linda Jeanne Allen (Sammis) on 1-3-98 by Willard Edgar Sammis)
