Dr. Phineas Edgar (1872-1940)

Dr. Phineas Edgar Horton was an active dentist for 47 years who served as President of both the Forsyth County and the NC Dental Society and an Active Member: Home Moravian Church, Salem, Nc. He graduated from Winston Graded School,  Salem Boys' School, Wilkesboro Academy, 1894, Dental Department, University of Maryland.

He was known as “Docky” to a wide circle of friends.  Committed to community service, Dr. Horton was a charter member and president of the Winston-Salem Kiwanis Club; served on the Board of Aldermen of the Town of  Salem, and later was a member of the Board of Aldermen of Winston-Salem, concluding his service acting as Mayor Pro Tem of the consolidated city.  He was deeply interested in the Wachovia Historical Society and was a Board Member of the Home Moravian Church.

 

DR. PHINEAS EDGAR9 HORTON  (ALEXANDER HAMILTON8, WILLIAM7, NATHAN6, NATHAN5, CALEB4, BARNABAS3, CALEB2, BARNABAS1)1 was born September 26, 1872 in Salem, Forsyth County, NC, and died April 14, 1940 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC.  He married CARRIE ALICE BEARD August 16, 1899, daughter of JAMES WILLIAM ASBURY BEARD and SUSAN PHILLIPS.  She was born August 01, 1879 in Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC2, and died October 31, 1960 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC.  They are both buried in God’s Acre, Old Salem, Winston-Salem, NC.8
