Oakes or Bunkerhill Cemetery

A small family cemetery, Oakes or Bunkerhill Cemetery is located on Whistlerhill Road and Beaverhill Road, north of Jericho Turnpike - NY 25 - in the Elwood section of the Town of Huntington. When Mrs. Scudder copied this cemetery on 21 October 1914, it was located at the time on the Peck Farm, a manure dealer. She called it "Oakes Plot, Greenlawn." It is now a Town of Huntington Local Historic Site. Information on this small cemetery is found in the "Scudder Collection of Long Island Genealogical Records" available at the Huntington Historical Society or on L. D. S. microfilm.
