Lower Melville Methodist Episcopal Churchyard
                    

    Lower Melville M. E. churchyard cemetery is located at the site of the former Lower Melville M. E. Church, now the "Little White Church in the Wildwood." Lower Melville M. E. Church was for many years during the late 19th and into the early 20th century a point on the Farmingdale Circuit and it shared a minister with the Farmingdale M. E. Church, Farmingdale, Town of Oyster Bay. The church  was closed by the Methodist Conference around 1930. The cemetery is located in the very south-west corner of the Town of Huntington, just to the north of the Town of Babylon line and just to the east of the Town of Oyster Bay line. The cemetery is located on Walt Whitman Road, the old cross-island route from Huntington to Amityville. In the 1950s, NY 110 was reconstructed and re-routed; today NY 110 - Broad Hollow Road - passes the church and cemetery to the east, leaving the cemetery and church between the modern dualized highway and the old road. The cemetery is located south of the Long Island Expressway.
 
    In 1912, Mrs. Scudder copied a partial inventory of Lower Melville M. E. Churchyard. This inventory is found on pp. 1456 - 1459 of the "Scudder Collection of Long Island Genealogical Records" found at the Huntington Historical Society and also available on L. D. S. microfilm. Material not inventoried by Mrs. Scudder in 1912 or post-1912 data is found in the Alice Meigs inventory.

    Alice Meigs inventoried the cemetery in the late 1930s. Her inventory of Lower Melville can be found in "Suffolk County Cemeteries, Volume 3," found on L. D. S. Microfilm Roll # 0017925.  Material included in these brackets [ ] was added by the submitter mainly from his printed "Deaths Reported by the 'Long Islander' 1878 - 1890 " or his "Deaths Reported by the 'Long Islander' 1891-1900" which is available on-line at this site. Other sources may have been cited also.
